Submission Guidelines/Style Guide
Please note that any submissions not conforming to our guidelines will be returned unread.
All submissions must conform to the following format and style guidelines:
- Please submit all work in either Microsoft Word or RTF format – no PDF files accepted
- We follow a blind review process for articles; author name(s) or other identifying information should not appear anywhere in the article - only on cover sheet. Use a running head of article title or shortened title on article pages.
- Please note: We do not accept simultaneous submissions, reprints, or material under consideration elsewhere. All work submitted must be original work.
- Academic articles must follow either the current MLA or APA documentation styles. Please do not use footnotes or bibliographic endnotes.
- Submissions should include an abstract of no more than 250 words to help us target our peer reviewers more effectively. No author identification should be in the abstract or the paper itself.
- Word counts:
- Scholarly articles: 5,000-8,000 (bibliography and endnotes are not included in the word count)
- Please do not submit thesis or dissertation chapters that have not been edited to be published as stand-alone projects
- Book Notes: 1,500 to 2,000 words; critical reviews of books that relate specifically to the current issue's theme
- Use 12 pt font Times New Roman or Cambria font; please double space
- 1" margins all around
- Indent 1st line of each paragraph
- Use italics for titles – no bold or underline please
- Please use left alignment for paragraphs - DO NOT use Justified Alignment
- All work must be in English, but words and phrases and quoted references in a language other than English are permitted in articles and book reviews when they are germane to the work - please follow these guidelines for dealing with words/phrases in a language other than English:
- In scholarly articles and book notes features: Use italics for words or phrases other than English in the text – include English translation in [square brackets] for any words or phrases or quotations in a language other than English
- Please do not use Word's automatic footnote or endnote function
- No bibliographic information in endnotes please
- Please use endnotes sparingly and only to include content information that cannot be included in main text effectively
- Endnotes – if used – should appear as a separate page after the text and before the Works Cited. Use
and number in regular font after the sentence or phrase in the text to indicate an endnote – no superscript. Endnotes should be in regular font as well. - Works Cited or References should follow the endnotes page(s) if endnotes are used, or follow the text as a separate page if no endnotes are used. You may single space the Works Cited or References list.
